The short version
- The calculators run in your browser. We don’t see the numbers you type into them.
- If you sign up, we store your email and the answers you gave, so we can understand who uses FirePath and, if you asked for it, send you the newsletter.
- We only send the newsletter if you ticked the box or pressed Subscribe. You can unsubscribe in one click.
- We don’t sell your data, and we don’t use advertising trackers.
Using the calculators
Every calculation happens on your device. Your inputs are kept in the page address (the URL) so you can bookmark or share a plan — anyone you send that link to can see those numbers. We don’t store calculator inputs on our servers unless you sign up (see below).
When you arrive from an ad or campaign link, your browser remembers that link’s campaign tags (such as utm_source) for the rest of your visit, in session storage. They are only sent to us if you sign up, and are cleared when you close the tab.
What we collect when you sign up
When you use the “Get my FIRE plan” quiz or a newsletter box, we store:
- Your email address, and your first name if you gave it.
- Whether you agreed to receive the newsletter.
- Your quiz answers — age, the age you’d like to stop working, income range, monthly spending, savings range, monthly investing and main goal — or, if you signed up from the FIRE calculator, the numbers in it at the time.
- How you found us: the campaign tags in the link you arrived on (for example
utm_source,utm_campaign,fbclid), the first page you landed on, and the website that sent you. - When you signed up and last updated your details.
We don’t ask for your phone number, PAN, bank details or any account passwords, and we never will.
Why we use it
- To send you the FirePath newsletter — only if you agreed to it.
- To understand, in aggregate, who uses FirePath and which campaigns bring people here, so we can build better calculators and spend our ad budget well.
If you signed up without ticking the newsletter box, we keep your answers but won’t send you marketing email. Signing up is your consent for these purposes, and you can withdraw it at any time (see “Your rights”).
Who handles it
We use a small number of service providers to run the site. They process data only to provide their service to us:
- Vercel hosts the website and runs the code that receives signups. Like any web host, it logs technical details of requests, such as IP addresses.
- Neon hosts the database where signups are stored.
- Google Fonts serves the site’s typeface, so your browser contacts Google to download it.
These providers may store data on servers outside India. We don’t share your signup with anyone else, and we don’t sell it.
Cookies and tracking
FirePath doesn’t set cookies and doesn’t use analytics or advertising pixels. If we add any in future, we’ll update this page first.
How long we keep it
We keep your signup [retention period — to be added], or until you ask us to delete it, whichever comes first.
Your rights
Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can:
- Withdraw your consent, and stop the newsletter using the unsubscribe link in any email.
- Ask what data we hold about you, and get it corrected or deleted.
- Nominate someone to exercise these rights on your behalf.
- Raise a complaint with us, and if we don’t resolve it, with the Data Protection Board of India.
To do any of this, email [contact email — to be added]. We’ll reply within 30 days.
Children
FirePath is meant for adults. Please don’t sign up if you are under 18.
Security
Signups travel over an encrypted connection and are stored in a database only we can access. No system is perfectly secure, but we collect as little as we can, which limits what could ever be exposed.
Changes
If we change how we use your data, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
